Learning to Thrive

This program shares the powerful journey of an abuse survivor who moves beyond fear and pain to reclaim her voice and rebuild her life. Through resilience, self-discovery, and a commitment to healing, she transforms from merely surviving to truly thriving.

Attendees will be inspired by her path of empowerment, the tools she used to overcome trauma, and the hope that recovery is not only possible, but life-changing.

Caregiver Resilience

Professional caregivers, also foster or natural parents, often face significant emotional, physical, and mental demands that can lead to burnout, compassion fatigue, and diminished well-being. Prioritizing self-care is not a luxury—it’s a professional imperative.

This program explores the necessity of self-care practices such as mindfulness, boundary-setting, peer support, and restorative activities to enhance resilience and sustain caregiving effectiveness.

By cultivating personal wellness strategies, caregivers can mitigate stress, improve job satisfaction, and maintain empathetic connections with those they serve.

Institutions should support caregivers with resources and policies that promote self-care, creating environments that value both patient care and caregiver health.

Ultimately, recognizing self-care as an essential component of professional ethics and practice ensures the longevity and quality of caregiving services.

 Learning Objectives

·  Identify and apply key self-care strategies—such as mindfulness, boundary-setting, peer support, and restorative activities—to enhance personal resilience and reduce the risk of burnout and compassion fatigue.

·  Evaluate the ethical and professional importance of self-care in sustaining effective caregiving practices, and understand how neglecting self-care can impact both caregiver well-being and care quality.

· Develop an action plan for integrating self-care into daily routines and advocate for organizational policies and resources that support caregiver wellness within professional settings.

Emotional Support Pets

Emotional support animals (ESAs) offer comfort, companionship, and therapeutic benefits to individuals facing mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

Unlike service animals, ESAs are not trained to perform specific tasks, but their presence can significantly reduce stress, improve emotional stability, and enhance overall well-being.

This program explores the science behind the human-animal bond, real-life stories of emotional transformation, and the legal considerations surrounding ESAs.

Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how these animals can play a vital role in fostering resilience, connection, and hope.

Critical Thinking

This session focuses on the critical thinking required by professionals and parents when addressing the complexities of child abuse cases.

Beyond the initial discovery of abuse, the session emphasizes the importance of advocacy and support throughout the various stages of healing, survival, and thriving.

Drawing from her personal experiences and the insights shared in her book He Is Forever With Me: Surviving and Thriving After Sexual Abuse, Reed provides practical strategies for recovery across all ages, highlights the significance of extended statutes of limitations, and underscores the role of publicity in promoting the support available through Child Advocacy Centers (CACs).

This one-hour session is designed for child protection workers, case managers, victim advocates, law enforcement, and multidisciplinary teams, offering valuable insights into legal and ethical considerations in child abuse prosecutions and victim advocacy.

Participants will gain knowledge applicable to their roles in supporting survivors and fostering justice.

The learning objectives of the session are:

  1. Understanding the law, including extended statutes of limitations and discovery.
  2. Recovery strategies for individuals of all ages.
  3. Recognizing the importance of publicity to support the resources available through Child Advocacy Centers (CACs).
